MEMORY AND RELATED DISORDERS
Workshop organized by Juan Lerma, Gregory P. Gasic and Jesús Ávila
December, 12-14, 2005, Campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain
The biological processes that regulate memory are one of the main topics related with the study of brain function. Different types of memories have been described: short and long term memories, declarative, episodic or emotional memories. On the other hand, different pathologies have been associated with encoding, retrieval, and assignment of appropriate outcomes to environmental cues encoded as memories. Diseases as disparate as Alzheimer’s and addictions result in failures of the brain systems involved in learning and memory. The main objective of the workshop will be to explore the function and dysfunction of neural systems underlying learning and memory. The meeting will concentrate on: 1) Declarative, episodic and emotional memories; 2) Synaptic transmission, cellular and molecular correlates of memory; 3) Memory consolidation; 4) Neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases.
