Nos enfocamos en dos \u00e1reas centrales; primero, buscamos dilucidar los mecanismos moleculares mediante los cuales la disfunci\u00f3n mitocondrial compromete la viabilidad celular y tisular. Si bien en sus inicios se pensaba que su \u00fanica funci\u00f3n era la de generar ATP, hoy es evidente que participan en multitud de procesos celulares como la regulaci\u00f3n del balance calcio, la apoptosis, el equilibrio redox o la identidad celular. Debido a lo polifac\u00e9tico que son estos org\u00e1nulos y la importancia que tienen en procesos biol\u00f3gicos y metab\u00f3licos, no es sorprendente que su disfunci\u00f3n esta ligada a numerosas patolog\u00edas humanas como enfermedades neurodegenerativas, diabetes, c\u00e1ncer o envejecimiento. Primero, nos proponemos elucidar los mecanismos moleculares por los cuales la disfunci\u00f3n mitocondrial compromete negativamente la viabilidad celular y debilita el correcto funcionamiento de \u00f3rganos y tejidos. Segundo, estamos interesados en entender como las c\u00e9lulas cancerosas reprograman su metabolismo frente a microambientes tumorales desfavorables para aumentar su supervivencia y
