La di\u00e1lisis peritoneal es una modalidad de di\u00e1lisis que permite filtrar los productos t\u00f3xicos de la sangre a trav\u00e9s del peritoneo cuando los ri\u00f1ones dejan de funcionar correctamente. Esta t\u00e9cnica puede provocar, tras el uso continuado durante a\u00f1os, el deterioro de la membrana peritoneal y su capacidad de filtraci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como la aparici\u00f3n de complicaciones cardiovasculares, provocando el fallo de t\u00e9cnica. Individualizar la prescripci\u00f3n y la predicci\u00f3n de eventos en cada paciente permiten prolongar su uso y establecer con m\u00e1s seguridad qu\u00e9 pacientes pueden beneficiarse a medio o largo plazo.<\/p>\n<p>Los\u00a0resultados, del estudio, que incluyen la predicci\u00f3n precisa en meses y en a\u00f1os del fallo de t\u00e9cnica de di\u00e1lisis peritoneal, han sido publicados en la revista <strong><em>BMJ Health &amp; Care Informatics (BMJ HCI),\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>consolid\u00e1ndose como un avance clave en el uso de la tecnolog\u00eda para la gesti\u00f3n sanitaria.<\/p>\n<p>En el estudio, la Dra. Eva Arriero y colaboradores, bajo el liderazgo de la Dra. Mar\u00eda Auxiliadora Bajo Rubio, Jefa del Servicio de Nefrolog\u00eda del Hospital Universitario de La Princesa, del Prof. Dr. Manuel L\u00f3pez Cabrera, investigador principal en Centro de Biolog\u00eda Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM, CSIC-UAM) y de investigadores del Hospital Universitario La Paz, han analizado miles de registros m\u00e9dicos para entrenar algoritmos capaces de evaluar factores de riesgo y estimar probabilidades de fallo de t\u00e9cnica o de fallecimiento (fallo cardiovascular o de filtraci\u00f3n peritoneal). A su vez, se dise\u00f1\u00f3 <em>de novo<\/em>\u00a0un immunoensayo\u00a0para detectar nuevos biomarcadores (prote\u00ednas se\u00f1al) para detectar en la cavidad abdominal la transici\u00f3n mesotelio-mes\u00e9nquima; un proceso molecular utilizado por las c\u00e9lulas, incluidas las cancerosas, para adquirir motilidad e invasibilidad. Seg\u00fan los autores, estos modelos permitir\u00e1n a los m\u00e9dicos tomar decisiones m\u00e1s informadas.<\/p>\n<h3>Modelos de IA con impacto en la pr\u00e1ctica m\u00e9dica<\/h3>\n<p>A diferencia de herramientas previas, el sistema desarrollado no s\u00f3lo tiene en cuenta par\u00e1metros convencionales como la edad, patolog\u00edas previas, signos vitales y la desaparici\u00f3n de la funci\u00f3n ultrafiltradora\u00a0de la membrana peritoneal, sino que tambi\u00e9n incorpora datos de evoluci\u00f3n temporal y patrones complejos detectados por la IA \u2014en total 218 variables cl\u00ednicas medidas cada 6 meses en cada paciente desde el a\u00f1o 1979, es decir, aproximadamente 140.000 medidas de datos\u2014. \u201cEste avance supone un paso adelante en la personalizaci\u00f3n de la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica y la prevenci\u00f3n de eventos cr\u00edticos en pacientes, dado que provee predicciones mediante el uso de una interfaz sencilla para todo personal m\u00e9dico, incluyendo a la enfermer\u00eda\u201d, afirma la Dra. Eva Arriero, la principal autora del estudio y experta en bioestad\u00edstica cl\u00ednica y precl\u00ednica.<\/p>\n<p>El art\u00edculo, disponible en acceso abierto para promover la difusi\u00f3n cient\u00edfica y la\u00a0democratizaci\u00f3n de datos no federados, ha generado un gran inter\u00e9s en la comunidad cient\u00edfica y podr\u00eda sentar las bases para futuras aplicaciones de IA en la medicina.<\/p>\n<h3>Perspectivas futuras y aplicaciones<\/h3>\n<p>Los autores destacan que este sistema digital podr\u00eda integrarse en hospitales de todo el mundo para mejorar la planificaci\u00f3n de cuidados a los pacientes.
