Aunque el tratamiento convencional con quimioterapia ha conseguido aumentar las tasas de curaci\u00f3n en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, todav\u00eda muchos pacientes no responden bien o recaen, y para ellos las opciones terap\u00e9uticas son muy limitadas. Por ello, encontrar nuevas formas de tratamiento para esta enfermedad es una prioridad urgente.<\/p>\n<p>El desarrollo de terapias espec\u00edficas contra la LLA-T constituye un importante reto, debido a que las c\u00e9lulas T cancerosas presentan en su superficie las mismas mol\u00e9culas que las c\u00e9lulas T normales del sistema inmunol\u00f3gico, lo que dificulta su eliminaci\u00f3n sin da\u00f1ar tambi\u00e9n las c\u00e9lulas T sanas.<\/p>\n<p>En este estudio, los investigadores identificaron una soluci\u00f3n al problema al descubrir que un receptor llamado pre-TCR, que se expresa de manera transitoria en las c\u00e9lulas T durante su desarrollo, tambi\u00e9n se expresa en m\u00e1s de la mitad de las LLA-T. Lo que es m\u00e1s importante, los autores identificaron a este receptor como un biomarcador clave de las c\u00e9lulas que inician la leucemia y una posible diana terap\u00e9utica en los pacientes con este tipo de leucemia. En consecuencia, al bloquear la funci\u00f3n del pre-TCR, las c\u00e9lulas iniciadoras de la leucemia dejaron de proliferar y el tumor dej\u00f3 de progresar, demostrando que este receptor es esencial para que las c\u00e9lulas T cancerosas sobrevivan y se multipliquen.<\/p>\n<p>Basados en esta informaci\u00f3n, los investigadores desarrollaron un tratamiento experimental que utiliza un anticuerpo dise\u00f1ado para unirse espec\u00edficamente al receptor de las c\u00e9lulas T. Este anticuerpo, al combinarse con un f\u00e1rmaco, act\u00faa como un &#8220;misil dirigido&#8221; que busca y destruye a las c\u00e9lulas leuc\u00e9micas sin afectar a las sanas. Al administrar un conjugado anticuerpo-f\u00e1rmaco en modelos de ratones trasplantados con c\u00e9lulas cancerosas de pacientes, los investigadores lograron inhibir el crecimiento tumoral, frenando la enfermedad y aumentando la vida media de los ratones tratados.
