Los grupos de Miguel A. Ba\u00f1ares, del Instituto de Cat\u00e1lisis y Petroleoqu\u00edmica (ICP-CSIC), y Antonio Alcam\u00ed, del Centro de Biolog\u00eda Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM, CSIC-UAM), han publicado en la revista <em data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"661\">ACS Omega<\/em> un estudio que demuestra c\u00f3mo los filtros recubiertos con yoduro de cobre pueden neutralizar el HCoV-229E, un coronavirus del resfriado com\u00fan.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"1196\">\u201cPasamos m\u00e1s del 85% de nuestro tiempo en espacios interiores, donde los virus pueden acumularse y permanecer activos durante horas\u201d, explica el equipo de investigaci\u00f3n. Para hacer frente a este riesgo, los cient\u00edficos desarrollaron filtros que no solo capturan part\u00edculas virales, sino que tambi\u00e9n las inactivan, ofreciendo una protecci\u00f3n activa y continua contra la transmisi\u00f3n a\u00e9rea.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1198\" data-end=\"1614\">El estudio detalla c\u00f3mo se prepararon los filtros mediante recubrimiento por pulverizaci\u00f3n e inmersi\u00f3n, t\u00e9cnicas optimizadas para lograr una cobertura uniforme del yoduro de cobre sobre los textiles filtrantes. An\u00e1lisis avanzados, como micrograf\u00edas y mapas Raman hiperespectrales, confirmaron que los materiales catal\u00edticos se adher\u00edan de manera homog\u00e9nea, un factor clave para garantizar la efectividad antiviral.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"2061\">Los resultados mostraron que estos filtros inactivan r\u00e1pidamente el HCoV-229E a temperatura ambiente, sin necesidad de condiciones extremas. Esto supone una ventaja frente a los sistemas de filtraci\u00f3n tradicionales, que \u00fanicamente atrapan part\u00edculas pero no alteran su capacidad de contagiar. As\u00ed, los filtros catal\u00edticos cumplen una doble funci\u00f3n: retener y neutralizar virus, reduciendo significativamente la carga viral en el aire interior.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2063\" data-end=\"2482\">Adem\u00e1s, el proceso de fabricaci\u00f3n fue optimizado para asegurar reproducibilidad y escalabilidad, facilitando su producci\u00f3n en serie y su implementaci\u00f3n en diferentes entornos, desde hospitales y oficinas hasta transporte p\u00fablico y hogares. La combinaci\u00f3n de materiales catal\u00edticos con textiles hace que los filtros puedan adaptarse a sistemas de ventilaci\u00f3n ya existentes, ofreciendo una soluci\u00f3n pr\u00e1ctica y vers\u00e1til.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2484\" data-end=\"3018\">El proyecto fue financiado por la Plataforma Salud Global del CSIC y la Fundaci\u00f3n \u201cla Caixa\u201d, reflejando el inter\u00e9s por apoyar investigaciones con impacto directo en la salud p\u00fablica. Los autores, Alicia G\u00f3mez-L\u00f3pez, Ana Serrano-Lotina, \u00c1ngela V\u00e1zquez-Calvo, Nicol\u00e1s Coca-L\u00f3pez, Paula Llanos, Teresa Garc\u00eda-Castey, junto con Alcam\u00ed y Ba\u00f1ares, subrayan que estos filtros podr\u00edan integrarse en estrategias de mitigaci\u00f3n de contagios durante brotes epid\u00e9micos y en la vida diaria, reforzando la protecci\u00f3n frente a virus respiratorios.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3020\" data-end=\"3426\">Este avance representa una fusi\u00f3n innovadora entre qu\u00edmica catal\u00edtica y biolog\u00eda molecular, abriendo la puerta a tecnolog\u00edas de filtraci\u00f3n activa capaces de enfrentarse a pat\u00f3genos emergentes.
