En este grupo se encuentran bacterias, como <em>Escherichia coli, <\/em>que conviven normalmente en nuestro microbioma, pero que bajo determinadas condiciones pueden actuar como pat\u00f3genos capaces de causar infecciones intestinales, urinarias o incluso cuadros graves de sepsis.<\/p>\n<p>Las bacterias Gram-negativas tienen una envoltura celular compleja: dos membranas lip\u00eddicas que rodean una fina pared celular llamada <strong>peptidoglicano<\/strong>, compuesta por az\u00facares y p\u00e9ptidos. Esta pared celular es esencial para su supervivencia y, de hecho, su s\u00edntesis es diana de multitud de antibi\u00f3ticos utilizados en la actualidad.<\/p>\n<p>Durante su ciclo de vida, estas bacterias crecen en longitud y se dividen, dando lugar a dos c\u00e9lulas id\u00e9nticas. Para lograrlo, deben remodelar su pared celular. Durante su divisi\u00f3n la bacteria forma un <strong>septo de peptidoglicano, <\/strong>una pared transversal que separar\u00e1 a las futuras bacterias hijas. Para que la separaci\u00f3n sea completa, el septo debe hidrolizarse por acci\u00f3n de enzimas amidasas, las cuales rompen los enlaces entre az\u00facares y p\u00e9ptidos. Su acci\u00f3n genera cadenas de peptidoglicano \u201cdesnudas\u201d, listas para ser procesadas por enzimas hidrol\u00edticas adicionales.<\/p>\n<p>El hallazgo del equipo ha revelado que la enzima SddA modifica qu\u00edmicamente esas cadenas desnudas a trav\u00e9s de su actividad <strong>deacetilasa<\/strong> \u2014una reacci\u00f3n que altera los az\u00facares del peptidoglicano\u2014, y regula la acci\u00f3n de las amidasas, controlando de forma precisa el proceso de divisi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo comprob\u00f3 que SddA se concentra en la zona de divisi\u00f3n y que, cuando se produce en exceso, bloquea la separaci\u00f3n normal de las c\u00e9lulas, formando largas cadenas de c\u00e9lulas bacterianas interconectadas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl descubrimiento de SddA nos revela un mecanismo de regulaci\u00f3n desconocido hasta ahora, y nos ayuda a entender mejor c\u00f3mo las bacterias coordinan la divisi\u00f3n y s\u00edntesis de su pared celular, una de las dianas m\u00e1s explotadas por los tratamientos antibi\u00f3ticos actuales\u201d explica <strong>Manuel Pazos<\/strong>, investigador del CBM y uno de los autores de correspondencia del estudio.<\/p>\n<p>Este avance no solo ayuda a comprender mejor la biolog\u00eda de bacterias que forman parte de nuestro microbioma \u2014y que en ciertas condiciones se convierten en pat\u00f3genos peligrosos\u2014, sino que tambi\u00e9n sienta las bases para explorar nuevas dianas terap\u00e9uticas en la lucha contra las infecciones.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Referencia<\/h3>\n<p>Hern\u00e1ndez-Rocamora VM, Martorana AM, Belloso A, Ballesteros D, Zaccaria M, Perez AJ, et al.
