UU.), ha descubierto un rasgo hasta ahora desconocido del virus SARS-CoV-2 que ayuda a entender mejor c\u00f3mo se ha adaptado a la poblaci\u00f3n humana durante la pandemia.<\/p>\n<p>El trabajo, publicado en la revista <em>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)<\/em> y liderado por la Dra. Celia Perales, el Dr. Esteban Domingo y el Dr. Ignacio Gadea, demuestra que el coronavirus ha cambiado la manera en la que genera y mantiene su diversidad gen\u00e9tica interna.<\/p>\n<p>Los virus de ARN, como el SARS-CoV-2, se replican formando lo que se conoce como \u201cnubes de mutantes\u201d: poblaciones con peque\u00f1as variaciones gen\u00e9ticas. El estudio revela que, mientras en las primeras olas estas nubes eran muy amplias y diversas, en variantes m\u00e1s recientes como \u00d3micron se han vuelto mucho m\u00e1s limitadas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuestro trabajo demuestra que la diversidad interna del virus tambi\u00e9n evoluciona, y este cambio puede influir en c\u00f3mo se transmite o c\u00f3mo responde al sistema inmunitario. Vigilar esta din\u00e1mica es clave para anticipar su comportamiento\u201d, explica la Dra. Celia Perales, investigadora del CBM y coautora principal del estudio.<\/p>\n<p>Este cambio no significa que el virus mute menos, sino que la forma en la que se transmite, los \u00f3rganos en los que se multiplica y la respuesta del sistema inmunitario han condicionado esa diversidad.
