Los resultados muestran que esta aproximaci\u00f3n fuerza la inestabilidad gen\u00e9tica del virus y dificulta su capacidad de adaptaci\u00f3n y supervivencia.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio propone combinar peque\u00f1os p\u00e9ptidos \u2014fragmentos de prote\u00ednas dise\u00f1ados para bloquear funciones esenciales del virus\u2014 con un compuesto mutag\u00e9nico, el 5-fluorouracilo, que introduce errores durante la replicaci\u00f3n del genoma viral.<\/p>\n<p>Por separado, ambos mecanismos consiguen reducir la capacidad infectiva del SARS-CoV-2. Sin embargo, cuando se aplican conjuntamente, producen un efecto mucho m\u00e1s potente. Mientras los p\u00e9ptidos dificultan la replicaci\u00f3n viral, el 5-fluorouracilo incrementa la acumulaci\u00f3n de mutaciones hasta llevar al virus a una situaci\u00f3n conocida como \u201ccat\u00e1strofe de error\u201d, en la que pierde pr\u00e1cticamente toda su capacidad para seguir infectando.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores observaron adem\u00e1s que esta estrategia no solo disminuye la cantidad de virus presente en las c\u00e9lulas, sino que altera profundamente su diversidad gen\u00e9tica, desestabilizando la poblaci\u00f3n viral y favoreciendo su desaparici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-295056 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cbm.uam.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Captura-de-pantalla-2026-05-13-a-las-19.49.12-scaled.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"797\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">La figura muestra la reducci\u00f3n del t\u00edtulo viral del SARS-CoV-2 en presencia del agente mutag\u00e9nico 5-fluorouracilo (panel central), y cuando este se combina con p\u00e9ptidos que bloquean la replicaci\u00f3n del virus (panel derecho).<\/h6>\n<p>Otro de los aspectos destacados del trabajo es que las prote\u00ednas virales a las que se dirigen los p\u00e9ptidos est\u00e1n muy conservadas entre distintos coronavirus. Esto sugiere que la estrategia podr\u00eda servir como base para desarrollar antivirales de amplio espectro frente a futuros coronavirus emergentes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Investigaci\u00f3n multidisciplinar<\/h3>\n<p>El estudio es fruto de una colaboraci\u00f3n multidisciplinar entre investigadores de la UMA, el CBM-CSIC-UAM, IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND, el Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Victoria de M\u00e1laga, el IDIBE-Universidad Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez, la Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid y la Fundaci\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez D\u00edaz.
