On February 13th and 14th, the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM-CSIC-UAM) hosted the first Junior Group Workshop of the European Society for Virology (ESV, https://www.eusv.eu/). This initiative, driven by the ESV President, Prof. Michael Kann (University of Gothenburg), aimed to establish a network of young virologists and foster collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of virology.
The workshop gathered 35 participants from 11 European countries, including PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and young group leaders. Over two days, attendees presented interdisciplinary approaches and explored the use of advanced imaging techniques in virology.
The program featured four distinguished speakers who shared the latest advancements in the field:
- Julian Kompa (Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, Heidelberg)
- Susan Cox (King’s College London)
- Eric Snijder (Leiden University)
- Wolfgang Kastenmüller (University of Würzburg)
Beyond its scientific impact, this event served as a unique platform for young researchers to establish connections and future collaborations.
The success of this first edition was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the ESV, the CBM, and the EuroBioImaging platform. This workshop not only highlights the importance of supporting the next generation of scientists but also lays the groundwork for future editions that will continue to expand opportunities in this ever-evolving field.
