In the Protein biotechnology facility we are involved in the search for the best strategy for biomass and protein production. We advise users on the different alternatives to optimize heterologous protein production and to solve certain folding and aggregation problems. We also provide technical assistance and perform our work in the following environments:
– Bioprocesses for microbial culture production at laboratory and pilot scale.
– Optimization of batch, feedbatch and continuous cultures
– Heterologous protein expression in prokaryotes and yeasts
– Antigen production
– Culture media development
Equipment and services
At the equipment level, the service consists of 4 fermenters available to produce biomass and protein expression with different working volumes:
1 Biostat C Plus Fermenter – 30 L
1 Biostat C15 Fermenter – 15 L
2 Biostat B Plus Fermenters – 4 L
Technical characteristics:
– Automatic stirred reactors (STR).
– Online PDI control of: temperature, pH, agitation and foams
– Hierarchical dissolved oxygen control
– Software: MFCS/win3.0
For further processing of the biomass obtained we have a Panda Plus 2000 Homogenizer (GEA Niro Soavi), with a working pressure of 2000 bar and a working flow rate of 150 mL/min.
In addition, the Facility offers competent cells of some common cloning and expression strains, such as DH5α and BL21(DE3), and DNA markers based on phage λ and Φ29 digestion.
