The CBM stands out for its vibrant and active community of students, trainee and senior researchers. Students from various educational levels converge in its facilities, including undergraduate, master’s and PhD students, all of whom are committed to advancing knowledge in the field of molecular biology.
In addition, the CBM regularly receives visitors from other research centres and universities, as well as students doing external internships from different parts of Spain, Europe and the rest of the world. This diversity not only enriches the academic and scientific environment at the CBM, but also fosters the exchange of ideas and international collaboration.
Researchers and students at the CBM have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects with the support of experts in various areas of molecular biology, which allows them to acquire high-level practical and theoretical training and expertise. Collaboration with experienced researchers and participation in seminars, workshops and conferences are an integral part of the academic development of our community, providing a solid platform for their scientific career.
In short, the CBM is not only a centre of research excellence, but also a dynamic meeting point for the next generation of scientists, consolidating its reputation as a place where knowledge and innovation are constantly developing and flourishing.

Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence accreditation
The CBM has received the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence accreditation in 2023. This is an initiative of the Spanish government through its National Research Agency. It seeks the institutional strengthening of research centers whose scientific leadership is proven at an international level, with capacities to decisively contribute to advancing our knowledge and generate high-impact results, as well as to exert a driving effect on the Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation System.
This accreditation is based on our characteristics and achievements in recent years. The award comes with financial support for our strategic plan for a period of four years (2023 -2027). In addition, we benefit from grants for the training of doctors and postdoctoral researchers who will carry out their training at the CBM.
The selection of accredited centers is carried out through a competitive process based on international standards, with the participation of scientific committees made up of international, independent and renowned experts. Issues such as the organization of the CBM and our financing, the research results obtained, training and human resources, or international leadership in the reference period were analyzed, as well as the diagnosis, perspectives, objectives and actions of our strategic plan for the next four years with respect to these and other aspects.
This accreditation will decisively contribute to increasing our international visibility, as well as the scientific, social and economic impact of the results of our research, thus contributing to the attraction of talent and the leadership of Spanish research.
CSIC Equality award
The CBM received in 2021 the CSIC Equality Award. Our application was prepared by our Equality committee, whose members work actively towards fully achieving a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion at the CBM.
The CSIC Equality Award is an initiative of the CDI and the Women and Science Commission, launched in 2018 to highlight and recognise those CSIC institutes, centres and units that have developed a relevant activity in terms of equality, thus contributing to promoting the gender perspective as a cross-cutting category in all aspects of the CSIC’s operation and to advance in the promotion of measures aimed at eliminating the barriers that women encounter in the exercise of their profession.
